Deep Impact: Assessing the Effects of the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill on States, Localities and the Private Sector

This hearing will focus on the impact of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill on Gulf Coast States and localities, and the effectiveness of the coordinated federal, state, local, and private sector response. The Subcommittee will review the planning that took place prior to the spill and the coordinated response effort between federal, state, and local governments and the private sector in the aftermath. States and localities will describe the impact the spill has had on them and will provide details of going challenges and continuing needs. Lastly, the Subcommittee will assess the private sector impact, particularly on the fishing industry, and the efforts underway to provide relief.
