Expenditure Authorization and Committee Rule Change

Unleashing America's Energy and Mineral Potential
On Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at 10:00 a.m., in Room 1324 Longworth House Office Building, the Committee on Natural Resources will hold an oversight hearing titled “Unleashing America’s Energy and Mineral Potential”.
The Energy Information Administration predicts a 50 percent increase in global energy consumption by 2050, with petroleum and other liquid fuels remaining the largest energy source, and natural gas consumption increases expected as well.

Full Committee Organizational Meeting
The Committee on Natural Resources will hold its organizational meeting on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at 10:15 a.m., in Room 1324 Longworth House Office Building.
Chairman Bruce Westerman (R-AR) offered the proposed Committee Rules for the 118th Congress. The following amendments were offered to the proposed Rules:
- Representative Matt Rosendale (R-MT) offered an amendment designated Rosendale #1 to compel witnesses to stay until excused by the chair. The amendment was agreed to by a roll call vote of 26 to 12.
- Ranking Member Raul Grijalva (D-AZ) offered an amendment designated Grijalva #1 to require consultation with the ranking member on subpoenas. The amendment was not agreed to by a roll call vote of 14 to 24.
- Ranking Member Raul Grijalva (D-AZ) offered an amendment designated Grijalva #2 to allow remote witnesses from islands and tribes. The amendment was not agreed to by a roll call vote of 13 to 25.
- Representative Jared Huffman (D-CA) offered an amendment designated Huffman to ban the carrying of firearms in the committee rooms. The amendment was not agreed to by a roll call vote of 14 to 25.
The Committee Rules for the 118th Congress, as amended, were adopted by a roll call vote of 25 to 14.
Chairman Bruce Westerman offered the Staff Resolution for the 118th Congress.
- The Staff Resolution listing the committee staff was agreed to by unanimous consent.
